How many days do you need in Naples
It mainly depends on whether you also want day trips outside the city.
Just the city: 2-3 days
Enough for the historic centre, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, the Cappella Sansevero, a walk in Santa Lucia and an evening in Vomero for the views. Everything a first trip to Naples needs.
City + one day trip: 4 days
Add one day for Pompeii, Herculaneum or Vesuvius. They're close by train (Circumvesuviana) and fit comfortably into a single day.
City + more day trips: 5-7 days
If you also want Capri, the Amalfi Coast or Caserta, plan a full day for each — it's hard to fit two day trips into the same day without rushing.
What affects the number of days
- Your pace: if you prefer to see fewer things comfortably, add one more day.
- Season: in summer, the heat makes days with a lot of walking more tiring.
- If you just want to relax for a day in Naples with no plans, add that to the total too.
