Quiet, up on the hill, with a view
What it's like
Vomero is a residential district on the hill above the city. The streets are wide and quiet, with cafés and shops, especially around Via Scarlatti.
From here you can head up to Castel Sant'Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino for superb views. It's not in the centre, but it's very well connected to it.
Line 1 takes you to the centre (Dante, Toledo). The three funiculars (Centrale, Chiaia, Montesanto) also bring you down into the city.
Not in the historic centre, so any visit to the sights needs the metro or a funicular. It's quieter, but has cafés and bars that stay open in the evening too.
Good fit if…
- You prefer quiet and views over the city and the bay
- You don't mind heading down by metro or funicular
- You like a neighborhood with local cafés and shops

- You want to be right inside the historic centre
- You want to do everything on foot, without the metro or a funicular
